In this book, two girls start out as "spies in training", as they would phrase it. They give themselves missions, like protecting one of the girls' mother's "secret" papers. After that doesn't work, they start to spy on someone they think looks suspicious. This lasts for about two minutes before he figures them out, and he joins them in their hunt. He tells them about a suspicious car that had its license plate changed every other day. They are on the hunt! They spy on the car, but see nothing unusual until he comes. He walk with a waddle, has a red face, a bald spot, no kids... and is one of their mom's boss. They watch him pass a packet to some people, and they are on the trail. They watch as he helps plan a robbery of his own bank, and they rush to warn their mom, but are too late. The robbery is under way when they get there, and they can't do anything about it... or so they think. The boy lets the air out of the tires of the robbers car, so they don't get very far, and they trap their mother's boss, and force him to tell the police the whole story. And so the book ends on the happy note that they have solved a mystery... and saved their necks.
